Taco Mix
234 E 116th St
New York, NY 10029 (212) 369-7757

I would like to start off by thanking Omnivorette and Pingaria for suggesting this place to me.. I always find myself on the other side of the street and by the looks of this place by the sign, it looked too classy for me.. But dont let the tin outside and the lights fool ya, this place aint so pretty..

We have gone a few times in the last couple of months.. It never has disappointed..Great tacos.. A little table in the back, the place is a small rectangle.. Counter running across the length where you can stand and eat your taco.. Free guacamole, free radish, free salsa verde.. Taco pastor, carnitas, pollo, cecina, lengue, they have it all..A couple of really interesting sandwiches.. The last time I was there these two guys ordered chorizo and cheese sandwiches.. It came with with lettuce, tomato, and some sauce.. Looked pretty awesome..

The tacos are $2.50 instead of the standard $2 bucks at most Mexican Places catering to Mexican's.. But you get a lot more meat then most places.. Really nice lettuce and salsa added on too..

If you go during the day right in front there is a lady selling steamed corn on a stick with lime mayo, cheese, and chile powdered.. .. For 2 bucks its great..

My experience has been that the tacos are consistently excellent.

I had a less the stellar meal over at Sandy's yesterday otherwise, I would have been able to hit other spots.. There were a couple of make shift taco places I had seen as well.. I will eventually get to writing up every place on that street.

I mentioned there was a lady there last time selling corn.. This time there was a lady selling a few things.. One looked like a mexican papusa, others looked like gorditas, and she had an array of quesadillas.. They were pressing there own tortillas and making the masa boats right there on the street..

Pressing:

In this photo you see three mushroom quesadillas and my pork skin masa boat

Here was the menu for quesadillas:

Here is my chicharrones picaditas? I think they were calling them picaditas..

Here some random picadita.

Was the best masa boat I have ever had.. Fluffy, airy and crunchy.. Just wonderful. Also the best salsa verde I have ever had..

Opening on Delancey!

This might (almost) help me get over the loss of El Maguey Y La Tuna.

Its chosen downtown shop is to be headquartered at 156 Delancey Street, part of the one-story strip mall near the Manhattan Bridge

They might mean the Williamsburg Bridge.

But in any event, a great addition to the neighborhood!

They did. Bowery Boogie fixed the mistake.
