Everything Patrick says (remember it's just a few years since mtl wine lists were indescribably bad) except there are some older bottles at cc+p.

YES! Some good finds in that CC+P list.

L' Express as well. La chronique shifts them on and off the list. No place around here extensively cellars bottles and private collections on lists are a non starter because of the SAQ.

very nice brunch today at olive and gourmando. i believe bonner made scornful sounds about it upthread but we are simple, small-town folk who thought it was pretty good. it helped that we were seated almost immediately--it got slammed almost immediately after.

after that we repaired to the basilica of notre dame and remembered why the reformation was necessary. and then to the museum of fine arts where we took in the toulouse lautrec and robert mapplethorpe exhibitions and also part of their permanent collection of contemporary art. the mapplethorpe exhibit is very extensive and rather good--all i really knew before were the more controversial pieces.

and our hotel herman dinner. very, very good, though some plates had superfluous components. and some oddness with bread: "it's on the house but that's because it's not up to our standards".

I think the carrots were so carroty because they were dusted with dehydrated carrot powder? Or so it seemed to me.

In my restaurant "we've been tweaking the bread recipe and we want to know what you think (implied - you know your shit) so bread is on us today"

sandwiches that are large and filling and do not contain tuna or prawns

Apparently the landlord didn't want to re-up their lease. No idea why. They have gotten an ownership stake in Reservoir, a brewpub on duluth. They have already begun to change the menu there, but the closure of HH might change how they are going to approach further changes at reservoir.

Is hotel herman friendly to solo diners? Or does it prefer 2+ tops?
