Williamsburg to be exact, a few blocks from the L train stop on Bedford Ave. The place is currently under construction and when completed will have a retractable roof. Radegast has been under construction since July and word is that they will have a restaurant in back. The Bohemian Hall in Astoria will finally have some competition. It wouldn't take much to improve on the quality of the food they serve although the atmosphere at Bohemian is fine and the Czech beers are always fresh and well kept.

Eater article here. Brownstoner article here.

I'd be really happy to see them open in time for Oktoberfest.

Perhaps you'd feel more comfortable at Sauron's Schnitzel Haus just down the block.

The retractable roof looks really cool and they'll surely have better beer than the Bohemain Hall.

I always thought the Pilsner Urquel at BH was the freshest I've ever had. Aside from Staropramen, however, they don't have much else available. I wouldn't mind a wider choice.

Great news--hopefully this will keep the Williamsburg hipsters out of my 'hood.

I've traveled in the Czech Republic a fair amount:

like many Italians...it tends to catch up with them as they get older.
lots of walking as well...slows things down for awhile.

the Czech Republic does have the most beautiful women in the world though...and I brook no disagreement on that topic.

oh, and except for some wonderful sausages, venison, pork knee and the like...the food sucks....so does the wine. the beer's awesome. maybe if food is that bad your digestive system just spits it out?

czech paradox? more like the czech truism.

QUOTE
"As far as adults are concerned, the Czech Republic is among the first places in Europe from the point of view of obesity. There are twenty-two percent of obese men and twenty-five percent of obese women. Obesity prevalence in the Czech Republic is increasing. About twelve to fourteen years ago, it was about sixteen percent in men and twenty percent in women. What is causing it is the increasing food intake and the decreasing physical activity, energy expenditure. What has changed is firstly the physical activity at the work place. People don't do physical work, They mostly sit by the table and don't move. Secondly, it's the journey to work. They used to go on foot and nowadays they use a car or public transport. Thirdly, there are the free-time activities during which the physical activity is also decreasing. There is a lot of sitting in front of the television or the computer, so all those three things contribute."

however, these people are not allowed on the streets during tourist season and so are not spotted by the casual observer. it used to be, of course, that czech children were stretched on the rack from birth to the age of 10. any that showed signs of flab after that point were destroyed. but with the passing of communism many of the old ways fell into disuse. reality was masked for a while as all the fatties were pushed over the border into slovakia on the night of separation, but now there can be no denying it.

It has a listing on City Search, but I doubt if it's open yet. Any news?
