I'm kind of old, and I can still get a student discount. Saved $10 on an oil change a couple of weeks ago!

Hang around longer and you'll qualify for senior discounts.

Then that happened.

Which venue had the older crowd?

Definitely MoMA. The five or six other people in the movie theater were all under 25.

When my mother was in her early 70s, she would get asked for ID when she tried to claim her senior discount. She's now 81 and I don't think she gets asked for ID anymore.

The Damned 40th Anniversary U.S. Tour

The internet says I first saw them live on November 14, 1976. Presumably they did a 40th anniversary UK tour last year.

Mr Miller, on drums, distinguished himself on their first visit to the States by claiming -- to general and well-founded disbelief -- to have bedded the teenage Joan Jett. The charmer.

I have a friend who saw all the first generation punk bands that made it to the US and says that the dammed were far and away the best one. he also says black flag wasn't that great, so who knows.

Black Flag had good posters and promotional art by Richard Pettibone.  https://www.google.c...iw=1024&bih=662

Not sure what the band is doing now (if anything).  Henry Rollins has a radio show on Sundays at KCRW and apparently goes on speaking tours.

Then that happened.

black flag is playing shows again, or at least was last year.

the pettibon exhibit at the new museum has a whole case of flyers, a case with all the records, a case of zines and so on. a lot of that stuff still looks cool to me.

Rollins is also a columnist for the LA Weekly.

Apparently his collection of vinyl is extensive. And he's somewhat obsessive about listening.

Makes a lot of sense The Damned would have been the best of what came over.  The Pistols were falling apart when they toured; The Clash didn't visit the States until 1979.

I wonder who he saw?  The Stranglers, maybe.

The Damned were a tremendous live band in 1976 and 1977. Personally, I don't think they ever really replaced Brian James as a songwriter.

At MoMA last week, the ticket clerk gave me the student discount because he liked my À Bout de Souffle movie-poster tee shirt.

At the theater a couple of nights ago, the woman sitting in front of me kept complaining about how hot it was.

I didn't have the heart to tell her.
