Maybe it's time for another gangland killing to put them back in the news? Even though it will mean one less customer.

Wasn't his driver killed also?

Funny, I walked by Rao's in the daytime recently. It looks like nothing in the daytime.

Can't you say this about many outre/funky dinner houses?    And actually, doesn't it look rather like nothing at night apart from the action?

Yes, and well... Apart from the action?

Not a restaurant, but still.

The Pearl Theatre has filed for bankruptcy. (NY Times spells its name wrong, sigh.)

We started going not long after they opened, when we noticed that an actor friend we had known in DC (since dead from AIDS) was in the unmentionable Scottish tragedy in the title role. At that time, they were in a tiny space on West 22nd Street, where you had to walk across the stage to get to the restroom (shared with the actors). When they moved to St. Marks Place, we followed. And saw a few shows when they moved to Theatre Row five years ago or so. Even though we didn't go so much since then, it's still a loss overall.

That review was brutal.

We asked for fried chicken and waffles ($25). The waiter told us the waffles “haven’t arrived yet.”

Mr. Donahues is closing on August 5th. They will open a takeout version of Uncle Boon's in the spot.
