If you haven't already, you are gonna hear about this band. Saw them last night at Spaceland. Excellent art rock that really rocks. Here's a few words about their EP. I would link to their myspace page (theairbornetoxicevent.com) but I can't from work. This is a really cool band. Though their sound is entirely different, they have the same quirky smarts as, let's say, Talking Heads. They could get that big or they could flame out. Highly RIYL VU, early Oingo Boingo or even the Hold Steady.

[Yeah, the name is cumbersome.]

Then that happened.

Another review which explains the name.
Strangely the EP I got has a track called "Papillon" instead of "Girls in Their Summer Dresses." But they did perform the latter tune (which ain't the Boss one) last night.

Then that happened.

Yeah, as the reviewer says, they sound like Franz Ferdinand.

Somewhat, I think he really means the lead singer, but they have their own sound at times incorporating keyboard, at times electric violin. Have you heard them (live)?

Sometime around midnight is pretty addictive Listening to it on their myspace.

In this one they sound like the Psychedelic Furs.

The thing that got me about the band (in addition to the material) is that you can't tell they have only been together a year. They click like they have been doing it for several years. They are ready.

Saw them again last night. Really good. They have enough material for a CD which is apparently coming at some unspecified date. One tune, which may or may not be called "Gasoline," seriously rocks. Note a new song, "Missy" is now on their myspace page.

Then that happened.

Some backstory from an old LA Times piece. Note that Steven Chen is referred to as a keyboardist, which he sometimes is, but mostly he's a pretty good lead guitarist.
