Heard on the news:  Construction workers in Estonia rushed to rescue a large dog that was struggling in an icy river.    They drove the dog, almost sedated by hypothermia, to a vet, the dog draped over one guy's legs.   The vet examined the dog and declared it a young male wolf.   Caged and muzzled to be treated by the vet, the wolf revived and was returned to the wild.

We live(d) one block from a major medical center.    Parking in our neighborhood was literally impossible altho we have "preferential parking", a two hour limit for all but residents.    This weekend, the med center closed this campus and moved all patients and services to a huge new complex in mid-city.

And whadoyouknow...today you coan roll a bowling ball down the gutter on our block and not hit anything.    I wonder where all of these workers and visitors will find parking in the city center?     Guess I won't worry since they never worried about my parking within several blocks of my house.

Someone on my floor has decided to start throwing used paper towels on the ground outside the bathrooms.  (My company and one other share the bathrooms.)  I have no idea why this began.  I'm guessing that person X dries their hands with the towels, uses them to open the bathroom door, and then doesn't want to throw them away in their office.  I've written a note asking them not to do that and stuck it to the wall, but I have a feeling that I might be pissing into the wind, so to speak.

This seems to be somewhat SOP in/out of public facilities.    So tacky.    As in "Kiss me, I'm so pure, and you can also clean up after me.

Could a small trash bin be placed inside, near the door? You could transfer one from a disliked colleague's desk, and everyone would assume it was official.

God, office bathrooms. I remember seeing the tech who fixed several floors' many copy machines not wash his hands.

That said, when I visit some of my past offices' restrooms -- and even some unchanged dorm restrooms at a college reunion -- there was definitely homey, madeleine-ish comfort in returning to those stalls.

The bathrooms are off of a main hallway, just past the elevators, so not actually in any company's office.  Maybe the building cleaners will get fed up and snitch to building management, or maybe my note will actually work.

Everywhere I've worked, people are just gross.  That goes for kitchen spaces too.

Do you ever read Ask a Manager? It's hilarious. There was a letter about someone from a different floor stinking up the bathroom next to this woman's office. Can't remember what the reply was, but I think there was a follow up, too.

There was also a great letter from someone who got written up because a coworker stole his very spicy lunch, and said coworker claimed the guy was trying to poison him. Workplaces are weird.

There's a commercial in our area of a schlub who asks his neighbor if he has a rec for a good contractor.    Told yes, he asks neighbor to propose his project, get estimates and starting times.

Today I told an old friend that we had just switched phone and internet service with help of our techy son.     She responded, "Ask XXXX what would work for me. I have AT&T for most of it, but the store line(2) all are multifunction. One is the phone and the alarm. The other is the visa machine & the fax. The cell is AT&T because it has to be GSM 4 band for my French chip, although I often just use another phone now, and the internet is U-verse, which is getting slower & slower."

'Bye, love....
