Wine Spectator has a short article about wine bars in Portland. Situated just an hour from many of the Willamette wineries, this small city takes its wines very seriously.
Portland is unuual in the US due to its strong stand against sprawl. The city is ringed by woodlands and parklands, downtown parking is strictly controlled and not cheap, and much of the city is accessible by light rail trolley cars and buses. Of course, go ia few miles to a few of the burgeoning suburbs (Beaverton, etc) and you could be anywhere from Alpharetta to Paramus to Huntington Beach.
