People who call and ask for a person without identifying themselves.     People who should know better, professional and financial offices.     No one teaches these people that you call someone, they answer and you immediately identify yourself before asking to speak with someone?

I just hung up on a broker who I took for a telemarketer.  He called back but wasted both our time with his first call.

Day 3 of the boil-water notice here in Austin. I try to pretend I'm traveling where I can't open my mouth in the shower and ;have to pour water from a bottle to wet my toothbrush.

There is exactly one "certified" subzero/wolf repair service for the entire NY metro area. They book a week out, and won't tell you a time until the morning of your appointment.

That's cold.

Came home from work last night only to be informed that our stove has started beeping for no reason at all. Seems something may have shorted out in the electronic panel. So now, I only a have range top that works - although we need to light a match since the starters are out. And earliest someone can come out is Friday. To make matters worse, we already know they won't fix it on Friday rather they need to check out the stove before they order any parts. I'm really glad I'm not hosting Thanksgiving next week.

The air quality in the Bay Area yesterday was the worst in the world.  We're #1!  In your face, Beijing and Delhi!

Seriously, it's beyond awful here.  I finally had to start wearing a face mask.

Oh dear. A colleague is booked to fly out there tomorrow morning for a week vacation with young children, and is scrambling to unbook everything. Worse if your resident there of course.

Rain may come.  You can survive.  Might be shorter lines or easier reservations.

Then that happened.

I've got friends who live in Mill Valley, work in the city. He usually bikes in, but not right now.  And other friends, who are actually on vacation, sent me some pix - looks friggin' awful.

I think Hollywood jests when saying you can survive - I don't know that I'd want to bring kids there if there's a way to avoid it.

Just staying inside. Ironically the chest cold I brought home makes it impossible to smell the smoke. But visibility is zilch. Yesterday SF had worst AQ in the world. Buildings a block away were fuzzy.

Rains not due to come until Wednesday, but we'll already be in NJ for Thanksgiving by then.

I had a concert last night, and the two long rehearsals plus the concert, which are tiring enough, were made even worse by the dry air and soot.  I got so very dehydrated, and I know that my voice was not up to snuff at all.  Even with wearing a mask yesterday and drinking a lot of water after the concert, I woke up with a nightmare of a headache this morning.  I've been keeping the heat on at night because it's getting chilly and my house's insulation is bad (it's always cold in here, even in hot weather), but maybe that's not a good idea.

Roxy the cat is sneezing like crazy, and she hasn't even been outdoors.  I wish I could tell her what's going on.

And now I'm sick.  I've been sneezing like crazy since Saturday, and I think I ended up with a cold or a sinus infection.  Am now loopy on Sudafed but STILL sneezing.

While the Woolsey Fire is 91% contained, the AQ in LA is now the worst.
