Just staying inside. Ironically the chest cold I brought home makes it impossible to smell the smoke. But visibility is zilch. Yesterday SF had worst AQ in the world. Buildings a block away were fuzzy.

While the Woolsey Fire is 91% contained, the AQ in LA is now the worst.

While not diminishing the horrible AQ here in the past week, I've necessarily stayed in the house and haven't noticed any irritations.    Maybe it's my checkered past.    One spokesperson said that at one point SF air was like smoking 16 cigarettes in a day!     I thought back to my youth and recalled when I would have been rather proud to have only smoked 16 in a day.     :(     When we are young and foolish and indomitable.

While the government shutdown has undoubtedly halted many important functions, the only ones hitting the news are overflowing garbage cans at federal tourist sites. Where do these outraged visitors think the trash comes from?
Certainly they were never taught the "Pack it in, pack it out" mantra.

Well it’s a good thing, but thanks on behalf of businesses and private citizens who made plans on the basis of the previous reality. 😬

The reaction I’m now seeing is “Fuck Cuomo,” which may be unfair, but really people plan more than four months ahead for this kind of thing (okay, sensible people). Can imagine lawsuits from people who dropped lease/rental prices.

Fuck Cuomo is because this is absolute shit infrastructure planning but good politics. They changed the scope to kick the can down the road.

Now if only they can figure out how to replace the elevators at 168th street without the #1 having to bypass the station.

The "new" European technology of which they are speaking has existed for almost a decade. This whole thing has been and will always be about politics. Anyone who believes any elected official gets what they deserve - that's just reality.

There's some new Icelandic elevator technology they're waiting to siphon.

visitors who asked if they could come at an odd time to see the baby. turns out on arrival that this was at least partly so they could use the house as a changing/regrouping station between their morning family outing, and going somewhere else later in the afternoon. this includes three children who i'm normally delighted to see but who're making a bloody racket in the house while our toddler naps. and the parents seem incapable of keeping them away from the areas closer to his room. miraculously, he has not yet woken up.

7.5 years later i am happy to say that i have no memory of this or who these people were.
