Might Uber driver this morning was telling me what a great burger he had, in Playa Del Carmen, at Guy Fierre's restaurant

My two 'go to' places for Mexican are El Sombrero and Los Mocajetes.

Sadly there are very few 'authentic' Mexican places left. The crappy chains have run out most of the family owned places.

As I'm now in San Francisco, I felt guilty about not posting my Vegas reports.  They're not thrilling, but they're up now (see signature).  Yardbird was okay.

@Evelyn: can you give a few favorites youre liking right now? Lunch spots would be especially great as I did not know Lotus of Siam had closed.

Just as an FYI, Lotus opens in its second location on Paradise Road on Monday. They will be serving lunch and dinner. Much smaller space. Reservations well be important there. Will be a second location when the original is back up and running. The landlord ignored the restaurant's request for repairs to the roof. It fell in during service about 2 months ago. Will be awhile before it's up and running there again.

Are you good with going off Strip for meals? And an idea of what style/cuisine/cost parameters would help me narrow things down.

Absolutely off strip. Im from so cal so I love ethnic but also happy to spend a lot of money for something great. Im a big fan of Raku and Lotus. Theres no cuisine I dont eat.

Sorry, I know that doesnt narrow the field much!

Here you go...I intentionally left out Strip spots. These are some of my favorites. Kabuto; Yui; Raku Sweets; Sparrow and Wolf; Other Mama; Chengdu Taste; Black Sheep; Norma's; Paid in Full; District One Kitchen and Bar; Chada Thai; Yonaka; Carson Kitchen, Ferraro's.

I live on the West side of town, so most of these are found there.
