Cook's World

Something about wild horses comes to mind.... ninja.gif
It may have been Camelot for Jack and Jacqueline
But on the Che Guevara highway filling up with gasoline
Fidel Castro's brother spies a rich lady who's crying
Over luxury's dissapointment
So he walks over and he's trying
To sympathize with her, but thinks that he should warn her
That the Thirld World is just around the corner

On October 5th, 2009 I said that I needed to take Paul there since he hadn't been. I'm happy to report that, four years later, Paul has now been to TPC. And we both loved it. The space is so cute with it's twinkling white lights. Their cocktails seem to be much improved. I had a very well made Deschler. Paul had a sazerac and we were puzzled at first because it was served in a stemmed cocktail glass but he said it was very good. Paul started with kale and parmesan soup which was fantastic and I will be trying to recreate this at home. For his main, he had roast chicken that was perfectly done. I started with a mixed greens salad. So simple yet also perfectly dressed with just a touch of lemon. I had one of the evenings specials; beet pasta with braised rabbit. The pasta and the rabbit was good but there were also roasted beets and other root vegetables in the dish, making it too starchy for my taste. Others at the table had the vegetarian crepes, which they said they loved. But all who had the chicken couldn't stop raving about it. The wine list is not huge, but has a good representation and high value. We had a lovely Burgundy for $48 that would be $60-65 at any other restaurant.

Service was okay, not great. Two of our group are gluten intolerant and, when one asked what dishes were gluten free, the rabbit was mentioned. When questioned about it later she had to go check with the kitchen to see and, as expected, the pasta made it not. I also sensed a bit of frustration in dealing with a group who was more interested in chatting with each other then getting our orders in quickly. But as we were a group of 7, I cut the server some slack for that.

It's been way too long since I've been there.  You comments about the food are exactly what I like about the place, seemingly simple food with flavor combinations that are just so precisely balanced, that it grabs your attention.
