I remember the restrained but very ominous comments about ownership Neil Ferguson made when leaving Allen and Delancey. In that case, at least, anyone taking over should have been on notice.

Why live your life when you could curate it?

Either Ryan Skeen is the unluckiest chef in the world or he's doing something wrong.

Or both

“One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. 'Oh, no!', I said, 'Disneyland burned down.' He cried and cried, but I think that deep down he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.”

Once you get into double digit failures I tend to discount luck.

I'll paraphrase Oakie - either he's picking the wrong places over and over again or he's fucking up in some major way.

Steve Cuozzo mentions Ryan Skeen as somebody whose very name gets the web publicity machines salivating.

Contrast this to Rutt's Hut, an old school Jersey hot dog legend. You can't even get across the parking lot without encountering pigeons who are so bold that they try to take bites of hot dogs from people who are walking to their cars. These pigeons are so brazen that they routinely shake down rats for lunch money.

I think you've just insulted all of the world's legitimate pop-up chefs.

btw, there's a pop-up restaurant going into the space on the SW corner of Kenmare and The Bowery. I don't know much about it, but take a peek into the space if you can, it's extraordinary (the front is 19th century, never renovated as far as I could see, while the back is an old subway station)

eta: the link to Skeen? Maybe he can go there when he's fired.
I never said that

The front of that former lighting store is the 19th century space, the back is the subway station (with stairs going down into a wall, subway station tiles, and everything), looks like they simply plopped that building on top of everything... I hope they don't touch it except to clean it up. Here's a pic from last month:

Per Eater -

Ryan Skeen's new UES restaurant will be called 83 & 1/2 — it's slated to open in September with a menu of meaty farm-to-table dishes like a "pig’s-head-and-lobster terrine."

83 & 1/2? It should be called Four Months.
