Aren't the two of you talking about different Nathans? I think Dr J means our self-proclaimed expert on NYC neighborhood boundaries, whereas Really Nice! means Dr. Myhrvold.

Too many people using their real names on these boards! :)

And then charging an even higher price than for (undefined) "filet mignon" AND making it heavier with the inedible bone. Adding flavor with the bone? Give me a break. <_< Adding weight and therefore revenue, yes.

Don't forget the 1/2-inch thick layer of fat.

"You gonna eat your fat?"
Spaulding Smails - Caddyshack

i used to go out with a fella who always ate the fat off my plate. no waste, he was a very eco friendly beau.

my mom says that cut is called a tenderloin chop. she could be making that up, though

“One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. 'Oh, no!', I said, 'Disneyland burned down.' He cried and cried, but I think that deep down he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.”

Yup, that's me, too. It's become a bit of a private joke between my wife and I. At the end of the meal I'll ask her in a whiny voice, ya gonna eat your fat?, as I take it from her plate. I remember way back as a kid with my dad leaving his bacon fat on the plate every morning before going to work and I'd ask my mom if I could have it. It was good stuff.

Caddyshack! I forgot that line!

I was in the "you gonna eat your fat" club when I was growing up, since my brother and mother never wanted to eat theirs, but had to fight my father for it (and for the marrow too, dang it!) Now, of course, Gary likes his so I have to be satisfied with what's on my own plate.

On a side note, was just having a conversation the other day about the fat-phobic trimming of rib-eye steaks that most supermarkets and Costco seem to be doing these days. That nubbin of fat in the center, right near the eye is often gouged out, leaving a silly hole and wasting perfectly good fat!

i went out to dinner, the other evening, with the younger brother of the fat loving ex-beau. i ordered a 10oz filet [clearly not a mignon] and he whined that because of my poor ordering skills there'd be no extra fat for him to eat off my plate. plus ça change...

Hah! Great idea and subversive too! Puts all that fatty goodness right back where the fat police tried to remove it!
