So this place is opening up a block away from me, looks like the 2nd location:

http://www.landbrotbakery.com/

Door has all kinds of German words and things painted on it, frankfurters, brots (as in bread), german microbrews etc...

Anyone know anything about it? Looked in today, and apart from a massive scaffolding presumably putting up a sign up top, the inside is entirely done, and there are breads and cakes and everything ready to go.

This spot used to be a tranny bar, then before that a Maui Tacos - that's about as far back as I can recall atm.

Can't wait for the one on Orchard St. to open. I should have already made the "trek" to 7th Ave. S, but unfortunately have not. The breads look excellent.

I don't want to drag you guys down but I've had a few things. Not so excited. I should however try the more traditional breads. I had a very lackluster pretzel tho. Wife bought some other things that were very meh.

Maybe they will get better - it certainly looks like they are very well capitalized/trying to become a German PQ.

Anyone else think 'flaming pie' not an especially apt anglicization of tarte flambee?

"Flaming Pie" is actually a Beatles reference.

John Lennon once said that the way they came up with that name is that one day a man appeared to them in the middle of a flaming pie and said, "from now on, you shall be the Beatles."

The egg salad sandwich isn't bad, though you don't get a heck of a lot for $9.75.  It's egg salad with dill, thin pickle slices, and grainy mustard on a poppy seed roll.  I usually add dry mustard to my eggs, so I like the tanginess.  However, the sandwich comes with a side of vinegary potato salad (plus greens), and the double hit of vinegar & brine is a bit much.
