I don't want to destroy your illusions, joe, but everybody knew grandma.

Don't you find it astonishingly moving that Dion not only married, but is still together with, Runaround Sue?

Yes.  You would've though he might've been The Wanderer.

So Sneak and I went here last night.  I think he liked it.

Oh yes I did.  I'll post a write-up when I get a chance.  But no one should hesitate -- except to take advantage of a BIG FUCKING DEVELOPMENT that has been hinted at here before, and which I'll break in my write-up unless Liquid (who knew about it first) justifiably wants to beat me to it.

With any luck for me, they'd take over the SKAL spot.

I see (to my relief) that I have little to add to what Daniel, Wilfrid, and Liquid said above.

I think that now, with the abandonment of charcoal at Toto, this is pretty clearly superior.  It has to be noted that both the food and the atmosphere are that slight bit more fancy than Toto.  The staff is extremely nice -- but less kooky.  So this is better food, but in some ways less fun.

But better food.

It doesn't bother me so much that it's almost all chicken.  Things taste sufficiently different from each other to ameliorate that circumstance.

My one complaint -- if I had to have one (and this is the internet, so I guess I do) -- is that we had to specially ask for some of the more exotic parts (the fantastic hearts, the amazingly palatable livers) after the official omekase was finished.  But that happens all the time in sushi places, too.

The BIG NEWS is that they are moving into the old La Silhouette space on the West Side in a few weeks.  That's on 53d, between 8th and 9th.  It's much more convenient to most of us than this place on 1st Ave. in the 60s is.  It's also much bigger -- for better or worse.  I'm pretty sure they told us the new place is approved for charcoal.

By the way, Chef Kono has hinted to me that Tori Shin 2.0 will have a more varied menu.
