An upcoming San Francisco trip (which starts with 3 nights in Healdsburg, reservations at Single Thread procured) and I've got La Ciccia, The Angler and Che Fico on the agenda with a drive down to Los Gatos for lunch. Is the Bywater worthy?

If you're going to be passing through Los Gatos, then sure.  It's a lot easier to get into than Manresa.  Not totally sure I'd go all the way from SF to there just for that, though.

Right, it's good but a casual place, not the stuff of a trip down to Los Gatos. I'm assuming the same will be true of Mentone, although then you're at least by Santa Cruz. So go to Manresa.

I'm curious about Single Thread, heard some raves recently.

Yeah, too bad Mentone is not open yet. I like, and have friends in, Aptos.

Kin Khao was nice, especially since the girls slept through the whole meal. Ferry Building was kind of annoying as there were lines for everything and the ladies were just not into that. Ended up eating at the Mexican place there, which was OK. Evening was kind of a mess due to planning miscommunication. I thought we could go to the Mikkeller nearby but they did't let us in as the kids were under 21 (seriously?) The staff there directed us to a truly shitty diner, I really have to question their judgement. I could only bring myself to order onions rings, which were the Sysco over-breaded hangover things. Not great when sober.

So now I'm taking planning over again. Tonight we're at A16. Lunch probably at Marla Bakery in outer Richmond as we want to hike a bit on the beach.

Tomorrow I need a good suggestion for dinner. One or two people want steak, and kids. Would Marlowe be an option?

Cockscomb certainly lively enough for kids to be absorbed, and no shortage of meat on the menu.

Sorry you had all those blips on your first day.  Enjoy your stay and the relative temperate weather!

The landscape here is just breathtaking. Great visit. Oh and Marla Bakery was lovely.

They have a stand at the Tuesday/Thursday farmer's market at the Ferry Building, which is good for me because I work near there.
