Attractive young women are queuing up to chat with me over Skype. Apparently I sound a really interesting guy.

“One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. 'Oh, no!', I said, 'Disneyland burned down.' He cried and cried, but I think that deep down he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.”

There are two men spending three days in my house sealing ductwork, blowing insulation into the correct places (so far), and replacing my bathroom fan to one that is quieter and works better. Thank you feds and the city.

I may have found a contractor to do my kitchen renovation/2nd bath/laundry installation.

Oh no, that means I finally have no excuse! (Other than $$$)

3 - count 'em - three inches of rain in the last 24 hours. That's equal to ~~1/3 our entire input since the first of the year.

The Hudson Valley Foie Gras Duck Farm stand at the Tribeca Greenmarket had three moulards last week, so I've got this year's batch of confit working (marinating in salt and spices now, to be cooked tomorrow). Also some duck stock simmering, four dinners of magrets in the freezer along with a pound of duck scraps to turn into something sausage-y, and a bunch of duck "drumettes" to play with.

So what if it's 80 degrees? I'm stocking up for the winter. :)

ETA: The confit is done and maturing in the fridge. Now as long as I have the slow cooker out, I'm thinking about a batch of caramelized onions.

The tornado relief event I've been working on with tour pros with connections to Alabama (the state-not just the University) was held Sunday and Monday in Tuscaloosa. Skins game/Cocktails/silent auction/live auction and golf pro-am. We raised close to $275K. Just a drop in the bucket towards what is needed. But, not bad for an event put together in just over 3 months time.

A couple of weeks ago, an excellent evening dining with Rancho Gordo at Lotus of Siam. Last night, dinner with Ron Johnson at a window table at Circo with Bellagio's dancing fountains as the backdrop. So good to get to catch up in person with them both :) .
