Almost tweezerly vegan food in a small storefront on East 7th.  I'm not the only omnivore saying nice things about it: although they're not doing the fake meat thing, the kitchen has mastered conveying "fatty" mouthfeel and rich flavors via veg and grain.

At the very least, a good option if you're dining with a vegetarian/vegan.

When did you go?  I know they already lost their opening chef to Europe so I wonder how much things will change from the first couple months.

Is that Ravi's place? He told me he was planning it a while ago, but wasn't sure how much of a restaurant vs another cocktail place it'll be.

It is Ravi's place (so I think you have your answer).

I think it's a beer/wine license right now, so no cocktails.  Not even beer/wine ones.

I didn't know it was part of that empire.  Goddam my research.

Ah, so maybe it will change once the license can be upgraded, better use it for vegan dates soon.

I gather Ravi is a long-time vegan. There's not much space for a bar scene, but I'm sure they'd like to serve liquor.

Eater reports that Ravi DeRossi is going to eliminate animal products (including non-vegan beverages...  like pechuga?) from all fifteen of his establishments, starting with Mother of Pearl and The Bourgeois Pig.

Next he'll remove all alcohol products.

Then he'll remove all customers.

Well, as Norman Balon, legendary London bar owner said, "Customers are a fucking nuisance."

I read somewhere that DeRossi is also eliminating all "animal-based spirits".  Other than bacon-infused bourbon, what is there?
