NY Times visits a "Farm and Gulf to Table" restaurant at the Sundial center. Likes much of what was sampled, although they found the steak wanting.

Falafel, New peas, Gulf shrimp, steaks, cauliflower and cocktails. 179 Second Avenue North

Bump,

No mention of Don Pintabona in the opening, although Michael Mina is mentioned frequently.

The place was mentioned to me this past winter by the closest to food wise folks we know in the area, but none had yet gone to the restaurant. There are several reasonably good places within blocks of the Sundial center that we've gone to but, somehow, we didn't go there. Maybe this coming winter.

I've only visited one MM room, his SF flagship. We were with major friends of the house and staff did somersaults for our table. Fabulous if close to intrusive service, chef's extras sent out. Very possibly the worst serious food I've ever encountered. I left as much as I could without causing a scene.

It's not my circus,

Similar experience both at the flagship in SF, and his namesake here in LV. Along with one other of his spots here (whose name I think I have purposely forgotten  :ph43r: ). Pretty much refuse to eat at anything attributed to him unless I am under serious duress from friends who  are comped and demand we make use of that 'privilege'.

Then again, maybe we won't go this coming winter.

Then again, maybe well go for lunch. And did. With Rich & Peg, when they were down here a couple of weeks ago.
The pizzas were ehh, the burrata good & my Italian cold cuts sandwich excellent. Nice crispy crusty bread (a rarity down here) with lots of quality tasty meats & cheese. Id never seen an assorted olive plate served (intentionally) warm, but they nailed it. The restaurant has outdoor seating overlooking the courtyard area & the service was smiley & informed. Downstairs, Locale looks like a mini-Eataly with lots of stuff to eat or bring home. All in all, better than expected.

We went to the street Art Fair in downtown St Pete today & parked in the lot across from Locale, so it was a good spot for an air conditioned lunch. The downstairs small wine bar had decent wine by the glass and we split a meatball parm hero that was very well made. Not bad at all, although I wouldn’t consider it a destination place either.

So basically it's a non-destination place, in a non-destination place?

Unless you’re here. Then it is. But, to paraphrase another genius, there are too many people here for it to be a destination.
