Lovers of Proust and/or fashion and/or La Belle Epoque, don't miss the exhibition at the FIT museum, Seventh Avenue at 27th St., featuring clothing and accessories that were worn by the Countess Greffulhe, Proust's inspiration for the Duchesse de Guermantes.  Actually, there are clothes through the 1930s, since she lived until 1952, and never lost her interest in fashion.

 

Of particular interest to me were a pair of red shoes...

The uniform show is still on, too, on the upper level.

Saw it.  Lovely show.

 

By coincidence, I'm reading the Forsyte Saga now, which in its beginnings is contemporaneous with Recherche.  The ostentation of the fashions in the FIT show would have appalled the Forsytes. :D
