Watching Rafa (and Sig Eater loves watching Rafa) thoroughly eviscerate his opponent yesterday, and pretty much every other opponent of his during this year's French, was loads of fun.

His style, his power, his grace, and his humility are all hallmarks of a special athlete, and we don't get to see that many of them (tennis certainly produces a nice percentage) in this day and age.

And then, as soon as the championship is over, SE gets to watch Rafa strip down on TV; it's a win win.

Good to see Nadal in top form.  On the distaff side, the absence of Serena was deeply felt.  The finalists seemed so young and tentative.

Then that happened.

Well, it's 2018's time.  But why close the roof for the ladies' semis, and not for mens' matches which were played in equally disgusting conditions?

I think its because the forecast was for rain last night.  Times had an article where the USTA reiterated they'd only close the roof for rain, not heat.

Yep.  And, of course, the Ashe roof takes time to close and they didn't want to chance it.  The new Armstrong roof closes in minutes.  What a better design on all levels.  We watched both mens doubles semi's yesterday in Armstrong and the breeze thru the stadium seats and the shade patterns were so much more consumer friendly.

 consumer friendly.

That's what I don't understand.  I realize the "forecast" was for rain, etc. etc.

But why not make the tournament more consumer friendly, as well as player friendly?

Close the roof, put on the a/c, when the temps are getting up into the 90s? I mean, it's not even like they're playing outside, even when the roof is open in Ashe.

Sour grapes. Not her first rodeo, but at this stage of her career she should know better. Guess it's just part of her DNA.

But at the end of the day, she'll cry all the way to the bank.

Yeah, it’s not like she could’ve expected that the guy would come down off the chair and ask if she was ok or needed anything.

Of course it’s her fault for melting down & putting herself in that position. And she was going down either way. But officials have a lot of latitude & the coaching penalty that started the dominoes falling is usually an aside to the player to tell your coach to stop and not the 1st penalty. Especially the way her initial interaction with him on that call concluded, she may well have thought that, when she slammed her racquet, it would result in a 1st and not a point penalty 2nd.

First rule of officiating in any sport is to do everything possible to not make yourself a moving part of the game. Some do it better than others.
