This is a good if slightly mushy piece about X.  Maybe you East Coasters don't see it, but X was sort of the Ramones and Television and Blondie of the West Coast.  A crazy good band that maybe got a little enthralled with their legacy.  But still with talent. http://www.thedailyb...-hit-middle-age

"In the late 1970s and early ‘80s, from Sacramento to San Francisco, some of the state’s most important punk venues were actually Chinese and Filipino restaurants. At eateries like Sacramento’s China Wagon and Kin’s Coloma, or San Francisco’s Mabuhay Gardens, now-iconic bands such as X, the Germs, and Black Flag played some of their most memorable early gigs. . . . Unbelievably, the Hong Kong continued dinner service as usual during gigs, which took place almost every night."

Esther Wong was an amazing character.  I went to her house once when I represented her in a minor case.  Her living room was bursting with punk memorabilia.

I was always aware of X, but never heard much of their music.  Couldn't just go online and listen, of course.

I always thought of Cervenka as a nuttier and even less talented Lydia Lunch, and apparently the nutjob part has finally taken over.

Good lord. I think I'll forget I saw that and just focus on her awesome cover of Breathless. The YouTube channel is gone, so maybe she's come to her senses?

She was talented.  She had a style.  You have to know that she and John Doe met as "poets" in Venice.  Not saying there is a causal relationship, but she definitely changed after she and Doe split.
