I took my kids here recently, hoping for a quick (and cheap) meal close to where we had to be around their dinner time. I dont really know what I was expecting, the proffer is embarassingly close to what my kids get if I dont have time to plan ahead at home, but the food we got was terrible (in a my seven year old knows whats wrong with this kind of way, Im not that picky) and our local grocery store literally sells three brands of ready made pesto that are considerably better than what we had. they also charged us for food we didnt get, did nothing when I pointed that out, had an attractive person watch a rude teenager take our order without comment, and so on.

mark ladner restocked the napkins while we were there, fwiw. I guess I know that this city forces talented chefs to do cynical stuff, but I did naively think this could be better than reheating store bought sauce at home and that he might have come up with a clever way to mass produce meat sauce.

the fact that this got an ounce of modest praise in the times is sad, etc etc.

If you are in that nabe w kids again I like eben Lillie’s wine bar inside dirty bird to go. It’s very kid friendly the food is good enough and the wine bar component is strong

The wine list there is a bit shorter and less inexpensive than it was a few months ago, though.
I didn't tip at Per Se either.

maybe not the end, but probably

“One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. 'Oh, no!', I said, 'Disneyland burned down.' He cried and cried, but I think that deep down he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.”

Who was advising this guy?

Hasn't Martina also changed its "concept," from counter offering to sit-down service.

People want salads and burgers this way, but evidently not pasta or Roman pizza.

I don't think it was a format issue.
