Grubstreet.com has an article on how restaurateurs think that 5% of all diners are 'total dicks', and how people are trying to perfect the latest online reservation apps to reduce the number of assholes that make multiple reservations on the same date and time, and don't bother to cancel, leaving restaurants with empty tables at peak times. Some apps like Tock make you prepay a portion, or all of your dinner bill to discourage diners from this practice. I find it so rude to not have the decency to call a day, or even a few hours, prior to your reservation, if you need to cancel (especially during a busy weekend). At least that would give the restaurant time to re-book your table.

5% is pretty good. Imagine if only 5% of subway riders were dicks. Joy.

I'm pretty sure that busy, popular restaurants don't have your table ready more frequently than 5% of the time.
