The tete de veaux at Benno is kinda great.

As long as it's not a sausage.

It sort of is!

I'm certainly doing a B aux C sandwich now

Call it a BAC and people will think it's a riff on a breakfast sandwich.

Inspired by Frenchetter, or by Rover's dinner.

We managed to grab 2 seats at the bar, walking in this past Saturday night, after getting shut out at Racines because of a private party. A few female screechers, but here the bartenders were kind enough to herd them into a corner, so we could eat our dinners with the standard ear-splitting volume of that bar.

All really good, with Significant Eater going veg and having the artichoke tagine and really liking it. I wanted the steak frites, it was a filet au poivre and I still got it - perhaps the best filet I've ever had.

The crepe souffle for dessert was outstanding.

COMP DISCLOSURE:  Pours that seemed really big after we finished our bottle and moved on to glasses. And shots of, oy, Green Chartreuse to send us off into the night. Or an Uber.

Shit I should have gone there instead of EC when Foxface was closed (notwithstanding the sign on the door).

It looks like there is an opening for a dishwasher at Frenchette in case anyone is interested.

Presuming that’s tonight?

They were reported (via Eater) to be intent on making the dining room quieter by installing sound absorption panels. Supposed to have happened in February. So, if you go, please report back about the noise level. TIA!

Thanks, Orik! Reminds me of Bâtard. We had dinner there right after they opened, and I found the noise level uncomfortably high. I was not alone since I read they decided to do something to mitigate it. But when we went a second time, I found no difference. We’ve never been back.
