NYC's toughest dining reservation isn't Frenchette or Le Cou Cou or Olmsted or Atomix or any other high-level place that comes to mind.

By far it's the Blue Box Cafe. I have been trying for months to get in anytime during December and January. Peggy has been craving to go, but no luck. I'm on the waiting list for nine specific dates - no luck yet. They open their reservations 30 days in advance at 9am est. Still impossible.

And there is no secret number unless you spend over six figures in their downstairs store.

So there it is.

So, the hard part is making enough money to spend 6 figures?

Wonder if Audrey Hepburn had it this difficult?

As per the information publicly available on their website, Atomix opened up February reservations 4 minutes ago. I logged in at the appointed time and booked my next meal there (on a Saturday night no less!) for my wife and I. So old school, and I didn't even need to make friends with anyone!

Speaking to the original topic, a friend of mine who is deeply embedded in the restaurant industry took a year of trying with the common folk to get a table as well.

Do you mean Blue Box?

If you do, was sent an email the other day that a spot opened for one of my waiting-list times. Responded within a minute and table was already booked - ugh!!!

Yes...point being that, as you said, there is no restaurant-insider way to get in.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say - there are still Atomix seats available for many days in February...

He's trying to say that he can actually just make a reservation at Atomix (unlike Frenchette) (where I'm not a good enough person not to mention I'm going tonight).

Because there's not that much demand?

I'm sure Atomix gets some last moment cancellations - how do we think those are handled? Returned to public availability?

Just received another notice from the Blue Box on an opening. Clicked on the link within one minute - table gone.

With all of you now busy trying to get into Blue Box, I was finally able to get a reservation at Frenchette.

From top of Blue Box's current Facebook page: "People talk about "olive oil poached salmon", "truffle eggs" and "croissant bread pudding"
