Best Grammys in a long time, I thought.  Stand-out performances by Brandi Carlile (who wasn't on my radar, Janelle Monae, and even Dua Lipa and St Vincent (which I wouldn't have expected to like). The Dolly Parton tribute was fun once Dolly got moving.

The other tributes were the lowlights.  Three women demonstrating why they can't sing like Aretha.  And the embarrassing Jennifer Lopez tribute to Motown, that well-known label for cross-over Latin pop.

Some heart-warming wins too.

Alicia Keys's diction annoyed me yoo much so I gave up after maybe 15 or 20 minutes.

Show did poorly in the 18-49 demographic.  Perhaps there are too many music awards shows?

There are a lot of award shows period packed into these few weeks.

Alicia's manner of speaking does annoy me too, but it was by no means as exaggerated on this occasion as it tends to be on The Voice.

Next up, I suppose, Oscar controversies.  Who got excluded, no host, etc.

The success of Childish Gambino raised my hopes for Spike Lee: probably fruitlessly.

I am still available to host.

It's a complicated year and there's the preference voting.  Somebody at 538 should be analyzing the awards of the various critics groups and the guilds and coming up with predictions.  It used to be Walt Hickey, but he's gone.  Spike has a chance.

I’ll pop a cork for Spike. Really didn’t expect the Gambino wins.

I think Spike's best shot is the adapted screenplay award.
