In Tables for Two, Goldfield mentions that Peruvian restaurants dispatch crispy, fragrant roast chickens in multitudes. (As do Dominican, Colombian, and well lots of places...). She doesn’t mention they do it at a third of The Fly’s price. Which doesn’t mean this place isn’t good.
Anyone?

I’m sticking with Cervo’s.
It's become practically a weekly place for us. They're even busy on Sunday nights.

Very quaint, very limited menu.. It is, 1/2 chicken, whole chicken, chicken sandwich, potatoes, fries, white sauce, salad, bread and greens.. Those are your options...
We started with the bread... It was three slices of shewolf sourdough.. No butter, no oil, not toasted..
The potatoes, one of three sides.. It was topped with a maldon sea salt.
Salad.. Was sort of the classic italian salad..this was like your classic 3 to 1 ratio.
The room is lovely, the staff is great, i think it serves a purpose..

If it was closer to me, I'd probably have given it a try. But, for $18/half chicken + $7 potatoes + $11 for a salad (all as pictured above), I can do fine elsewhere. Beasts & Bottles, for example (not one of my favorite places, but a pretty nice one), seems good or better for the same $.

Mancora is around that price for a whole chicken, including sides and salad. And you can get beef heart to start.

ok, but I didn't think that The Fly's chicken looked like those served at places like Mancora (which I have been to over the years... they even used to have one on Court or Smith St in Bklyn). While not Coq Rico, I see The Fly as putting out a classier done bird. Of course, I haven't been, so.....

Vincent Price loves this place - and he's a great chef who published an excellent cookbook.
