Not a bad list of "classics," but I'm not sure about "every New Yorker must try." There's some very mediocre food to be had at some of these places (and no, there's no Sammy's).
Delmonico's shouldn't be on it, though. Entirely ersatz.

Right. And they kind of hedgingly acknowledge it (I have to self-servingly conjecture it's because of a series of comments I've made on Eater in the past when they've made claims of Delmonico's antiquity) -- but they don't come out and say that it isn't the same restaurant, it isn't a related restaurant, it's just some other restaurant using the same name.

That list was originally posted in 2015 (as the comments section reveals). Did a restaurant move into the classic column (or out of it) at some point in the last four years, to warrant this "update"?

Although my comment about Delmonico's from back then seems to have been removed. Even I'm not solipsistic enough to believe that the only update was their rewrite of the "Delmonico's" entry.
