I'm guessing there are less and less of these still extant, simply due to economics.

So last night, late, 2 friends and I were walking eastbound on 14th Street from 9th Avenue, when one suggested we stop at The Donut Pub. I thought I didn't hear him correctly, and that he was referring to a bar.

Nope.

The Donut Pub - opened in 1964 (!), open 24/7, founded by a Wall St. guy.

I never knew this existed.  I don't get uptown much.  The donuts are excellent.

I have a distant memory of Steve Shaw writing about the place, and me asking him if it was a bar.

Now I miss Mykonos, which was on the corner of 7th & 14th. Best baba ganoush in the WORLD.

It is right next to a bar though.

I was baffled to see JG Melon in the Village last night, but it's probably been there for years.

BTW, if you need a professionally made cocktail in a relaxed environment, Bar Moga on West Houston is one of the few oases in that neighborhood.

Yeah, it's not as good as the uptown branch!

There's always (for now, anyway) Pegu Club too.

Some would add Bar Pisellino, but I confess to not being able to see the point of that place.

Cafe Dante packed to overflowing; was considering that. I don’t Up & Up.

Haven’t been to Pegu in a long time. The combination of crowds and the meticulous building of the drinks made it inconvenient just for a quick one or two.

Bartenders at LPR open Red Stripes faster than a flicker.

Abraço is not a terrible option although it closes relatively early. I think 10pm

(disclosure - I have a small financial interest there)

Ah, I didn't notice westness was a criterion.
