Right up Sneakeater's alley...to be frank, although I do take some pix at concerts, I wish cell-phones could somehow be disabled, at least until a performance is complete.

“One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. 'Oh, no!', I said, 'Disneyland burned down.' He cried and cried, but I think that deep down he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.”

And can I complain again about people taking selfies in front of works of art in galleries?

As a performer, I hate audience members taking pictures and videos.  Flash is often used, which is a real distraction, but even the lights on the phone that come on when someone is taking a pic or shooting a video are distracting in their own way. And as is noted in the article, it's also matter of consent.  We (the chorus) don't even get concert recordings for our own enjoyment because that violates some agreement the orchestra has about recordings, but no one at the venues ever does anything about people popping out the cell phones which is about as unauthorized as it gets.
