Let's give the Johnsons some weekend homework.

I think south side of 14th street down to north side of Houston is uncontroversial, and the eastern boundary must be the west side of 3rd Avenue to keep clear of our East Village section. If we separate out the West Village, which I think we probably should, then the east side of 7th Avenue would be the western boundary. This isn't perfect, as it hacks Greenwich Avenue in two - but then Greenwich Avenue insists on running at a silly angle just to confuse cab drivers.

Anyway, I will take submissions that my geography is wrong.

So, what do we like?

Best bar: Temple Bar (well, it is above Houston and Lafayette turns into 4th Ave)
Best butchers: Florence Meat Market and Jefferson Market
Best fish market: Citarella
Best burger: Knickerbocker, which also has great,old-fashioned two-fisted cocktails
Best pasta: Lupa
Best places to sit outside, or sort of outside, on a nice night and have a drink and a bite: Bar Pitti and Pop
Best fancy diner: Noho Star, which makes its own gingerale, the best ever
Best cheese: Murray's

Addressing only geographic issues... I would have been inclined to call everything west of Sixth Avenue the West Village, everything east of Third Avenue the East Village, and everything in between, well, something else. NoHo, I guess. My point is just that, in a subjective way, I feel like I have entered the West Village as soon as I walk West of Sixth Avenue. This method also has the advantage that Sixth Avenue is where the streets begin to assume their new "parallel to Greenwich Avenue" orientation.

In any case, I'm eagerly copying down all these recommendations. Please keep them coming.

Best spermarket: Wholefoods if it ever fucking opens

Rumor has it that the whole deal fell through and they're going to open their new flagship store on the LES on or near Stanton Street.

I'd agree that Greenwich Village runs from the Hudson River to Broadway,from 14thst to Houston.But anyhoo,within these appointed boundaries;Pearl Oyster Bar for being itself;Lupa and Babbo for Italian food;Ino and Blue Ribbon Bakery for light meals.Dantes' a sentimental favorite for espresso and espresso granita.Florence Meat Market,the new Wild Edibles And Citarella for fish,Porto Rico for coffee beans,Faiccos' for pork,Raffettos' for fresh pasta,Astor Wines for wine...and a nice walk to the greenmarket at Union Square.Pretty good to live and shop here...!

A Whole Foods has been planned on E. Houston St. for quite some time....building is in process now.
