I kept the Husk reservation. What a lovely setting, clean modern design dining rooms with huge windows flowing from the remaining structure of a grand old house. Nice service too, and interesting wine list.

The food is rich and heavy. Okay, I did order chicken livers on Sally Lunn bread and a pork duo; I could have ordered salad and fish. But I had expected that in updating Southern cuisine with good ingredients and cheffy touches--all absolutely present here--Husk might also have slightly lightened it.

The chicken livers had "Nashville hot" levels of fire. Pork shoulder, fine; the belly was very much just the fat layer; cheffy touch, a lovely peanut cream tying it to peanut "gravel" on the sweet potato.

Only because I could not stand up did I eat the apple, smoked cheddar biscuit and cider ice cream, which was quite good.

A Slovenian orange wine was terrific with the livers until the hot sauce paralyzed my palate.

$120-ish, cheaper than New York for this level (overall, not just food).

Glad you had a better meal than I did. Hope you availed yourself of the parkerhouse rolls too ;-)

The rolls, with lard-honey butter, were impeccable.

Someone just invited me to take her to a collaborative dinner Sean Brock is participating in in New York in July (I think on the 17th).

I wish I could remember the details (like where).

Isn't it a dinner at Frankies 457, in their backyard?

Or they could be all sold out, so it doesn't matter.
