I consider myself somewhat intelligent. Then, why do I put up with them? Had my father still been alive to see today's game, it would have killed him.

Forget my last post in this thread. We've got the best record in the majors. Everything seems to be clicking. As always, however, caution is advised. The next six games (Brewers and Braves) should be telling.

I like this team a lot. The Delgado deal has paid off immediately and I think he's going to take the pressure off Beltran. LoDuca is everything you want in a major league catcher. Reyes is being more selective at the plate - last year he was swinging at lots of awful pitches. Not so this year.

Glavine has learned to pitch all over again and showed that last season's 2nd half success was no fluke. And Pedro continues to be Pedro.

They will be fun to watch all year.

Not being one of these "one or the other" fans, I can get juiced by a great Mets team and a great Yankees team. I think this season could be fun.

This season is already fun. And ranitidine is right: the next six games will be telling. Milwaukee is surprisingly strong and it will be interesting to see if the Mets can get over the head game with Atlanta this year.

I feel the same way. I really liked those great Yankee teams of the late 90s.

When the Mets played the Yankees at Shea last summer I was there. It was interesting to see which Yankee players got booed. Plenty of jeers for Giambi (steroids) and Rodriguez (great player - insufferable ego.) Respectful silence for Jeter and Bernie.

It does look like a good team this year.

One has to admit it.

Boy, was it great being at Shea for Pedro's 200th victory tonight. I've stapled my ticket into my program as a memento. No one seemed to mind the typically horrible Shea weather. It seemed that no one left before the last out. I always get a kick out of all the frummies at Mets games. There's something delightful about a guy wearing a baseball cap and blue jeans, with his tzitses showing.

Wagner seemed to use the slider more against righties last night, not especially successfully. Maybe he's doing this because his fastball is still not up to full speed.

The Braves will be tougher when Renteria and the other Jones return.

By the way, did anyone hear Keith Hernandez fulminating about the presence of a woman in the Padres' dugout? Turns out she's an assistant trainer. She was in a team uniform. Really, he should stick to analyzing the game. He sounded like a first-class jerk, especially after he was informed that it's her business to be in the dugout.

I saw it. So did a lot of others, apparently. He apologized yesterday.

Zambrano has got to stop grooving his two strike pitches.

I knew I was going to miss Benson but I didn't realize how soon and how much. Zambrano is a bum.
