It really was great. And Gedeck was also wonderful in The Lives of Others which is on my list of Best Movies Ever. The Baader Meinhof Complex is very watchable in a gruesome way. Started watching it around 9PM last night thinking we'd only watch 2/3, but watched the whole 2 and 1/2 hours. Martina Gedeck as Meinhof is the most likable, and her performance is stellar.

Ditto. I would suggest The Watchmen. Many people didn't like it. It is very campy, but I thought it was intelligent and original. I was very pleasantly surprised and enjoyed it more than Sin City.Sin City. I'd never heard of it, or of the comic, and I thought it was terrific and awful and wonderful.

This is available as a rental. They have it at my local library.Get Low, with Robert Duvall, Bill Murray, and Sissy Spacek. Not a rental, it's on premium cable.
In the 1930s a Tennessee hermit decides he wants to stage his funeral *before* he dies. Murray is droll and doesn't overact, Spacek is sweet, and Duvall, at 79, is superb. The supporting cast is excellent. The film is character driven, not plot driven. That said, it's a must-watch for Duvall fans.
The Times had it right.

I had to Google it before realizing that I've already seen (and loved) it twice.John Crowley's Intermission, described as a comedy, but given that Crowley is a long term collaborator of Martin McDonagh, don't expect Bill Cosby. If you do, that notion will be dispelled rather quickly. It is, nonetheless, very funny, with a great cast. Recommended but you may need subtitles.

Agreed, and a film that as much as it impressed me I never want to see again. I felt exsanguinated after viewing it. Michael Fassbender and Liam Cunningham were both brilliant, and what makes me want to see Shame so much is that it's another McQueen/Fassbender collaboration.Steve McQueen's Hunger. Violent, disturbing and quite, quite brilliant. I haven't been so impressed with a debut since Rat Catcher.

Everything is always OK in the end. If it's not OK, then it's not the end.

Moved on to Crazy, Stupid, Love. I really liked this movie. Steve Carrell is quite sweet, Ryan Gosling is HOT and Emma Stone is adorable. There's some great lines in it. The end is a bit over the top but it made me laugh.

I was on the fence about whether or not to spend two hours watching Crazy Stupid Love and mentioned this to my friend W and his response was 'it's worth it simply to see Ryan Gosling shirtless'. He's absolutely right. After a long, hard week, we needed some brainless fare. Started with Our Idiot Brother. The idea was a good one but it was actually kind of boring. If it didn't have Paul Rudd in it, I might not have finished watching it.

I thought it a harmless, fairly amusing bit of fluff and yes Emma Stone is very appealing.

A film student who works at our town library has been urging me to see this for months, it's one of her all-time favorites. Unfortunately it's not in stock there & I'll have to put it on special order. One of these days....Let the Right One In, which can be very inadequately described as a Swedish horror film, with its central character a lonely, bullied 12 year old boy who befriends a mysterious girl who has moved in next door. It's creepy and suspenseful and quite a bit bloody in spots but at the same time has moments that are sweet and touching, and even funny. I'm trying to think of a false note in it, but can't. Great cinematography, too. In Swedish with English subtitles, directed by Tomas Alfredsen who also directed Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
Typically, there's been an American remake. She says it's actually not too bad tho not as good as the original.

Definitely the best movie I saw in 2011 (the film is from 2008). The intensity is something that I have rarely experienced watching a movie, particularly at home. And, as Daisy indicates, the emotions shift so that it isn't all suspense or horror etc. The acting, particularly by the kids, is very good also.A film student who works at our town library has been urging me to see this for months, it's one of her all-time favorites. Yes, a moment that made me laugh and has stayed with me:
Oskar: How did you get here?
Eli: I flew.
