I grew up with this guy.  Parked in front of the B&W TV as a pre-schooler by my mom.

 

He came into and out of my life randomly during his late night show.  Always a blast to watch particularly through the marijuana haze of my late teens/early twenties.  The strangest mishmash of guests you'll ever see.  For all the trite, schmaltzy stuff; he was original as hell.  One of a kind.  He was never ever rude.

Still re-reading Delany's Dhalgren.  Almost done

 

Met him once.  Made a comment about Jack Spicer which he misinterpreted and got huffy about.

 

Only book I've read is his non-fiction memoir about rough sex in Times Square.  :)

 

The sex thing permeates his books from the 70s on.  He won a nebula for a terrific little story called "Aye and Gomorrah" .

At least I do.  One of those coaching names that will be forever intertwined with my tween/early adolescent years.

 

I remember being thrilled to see him dining with, I believe, Ed Koch at Fresco by Scotto (Just Fresco back then IIRC) in the 90s.

People bring occasion cakes all the time.  I haven't seen much more BYO food than this.  Usually it has to do with a special cake that frankly, I don't want to deal with.  Occasion cakes and such are out of my wheelhouse, so I would rather you went to a patissiere and worked out your own. 

 

Yeah, you lose a dessert sale (possibly?), but the good will fostered and the usually larger size of the table filled with people who haven't been to your restaurant makes up for the lost sale IMO.

 

At the same time.  A nominal fee--$2.50pp let's say--is not out of line.  The PR value of implementing and then waiving such a fee can also prove valuable.

380 twixt 3PM and 6.  Each family gets an appropriately sized turkey from Goffle.

 

Somewhere north of 300 for takeout twixt 11:30 and 1

 

50 staff or si at 1:30 PM

 

It's difficult especially with the Weds nite 300 crowd for Deli Night.  Pastrami, Corned Beef, Tongue, Turkey, Kosher foot longs Matzoh Ball Soup all i kinds of smoked fish and Potato pancakes, chix in the pot, salmon and Roasted Broccoli..

 

My lament is that I didn't have the time to make Knishes.

I invited 100 guests or so.  Tagged splits of Rose' (bought at wholesale) as parting gifts.  catered the event by myself and rented a volunteer firehouse for t5 dollars/hr including 3 fireman bartenders  (tipped separately).  The Mayor of Bergenfield NJ married us (and stayed and imbibed for a few hours) and we had a 10 hour party.  No photogs, a volunteer DJ and all liquor was bought wholesale through relatives in the business.  It cost about 1200 bucks in 1983 and we received about $800 in cash gifts.

 

We bought wedding bands for each other.

Center seat during an IMAX matinee.

 

Yes, the score is too loud, but didn't interfere with the dialogue for me.  The drowned out dialogue and concepts were explained later. and yes there are plot holes.and some of the story line can be incredulous.

 

I found it thought-provoking.  I wasn't disappointed in the least.  it was one of the better films and best Sci-Fi I've seen in quite some time.

 

Too many chances to give away spoilers.  I'll just say that I recommend it.

Local Seasonal Kitchen

 

About as good a meal as I've had in recent memory

 

Torchon wrapped in serrano with fig jam starter for me

Others had the Raviolo and the Tuna Sashimi

 

Middles of Hosue made Orriechete with pulled short rib; and Rabbit in a folded type pasta and a spicy sauce.  I forget what it was called, but it was filled with flavor.

 

I had the Cauliflower Steak

others had the Halibut and Short Ribs and Sea Scallops

 

Jessika's Donuts, Chocolate Budino and Bacon caramel Popcorn and gelato's were terrific.

 

500 all in for 4 incl tip.

 

Service was very very on point.
