Suzanne,  yes, or at least it's marzipan which is (about?) the same.

It was interesting this year as I made the stollen exactly as I have always before.  This year, inexplicably, the two stages of rising were much greater thereby making the result less dense and lighter.  It must have been a more active yeast, for some reason.

The taste test should be a good comparison to prior results.

A surprise from yesteryear!

For years there's been a wine in my cellar that I didn't know what to do with so I finally pulled it last evening. Not expecting much, it was a real surprise.

It was the Saint Felicien Estate Bottled Argentine Cabernet Sauvignon by Bodegas Esmeralda '63. Here's a photo of the bottle along with a scan of the info attached to the bottle.

Yes, it was a tad bit raisiny, but otherwise very nicely evolved and a pleasing accompaniment with roast pork, collard greens, and roasted red peppers/garlic, then a variety of cheeses and apple. The old-style Cabernet profile was a true delight. Evidently a wine with a worthy pedigree and a style we need more of.

Just finished The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Emma Orczy.  A fine read and a wonderful classic.

Difference of perspective?

Every week, some ticket holders must miss the game. But the NFL is laboring across the board this season to maintain its fan base and minimize no-shows. It’s not just the Ravens. Television ratings are down league-wide and empty seats can be seen at many games.

I've seen several reports and photos indicating that fans are staying away from NFL games in droves.  Probably similarly from viewing televised games.
