#1222343 The Pete Wells Thread

See, we are much closer on this than you may have initially thought.

If memory serves, we have had this conversation before and it usually ends the same way. Us agreeing that the star system sucks, the NYT sucks, food reviewing in general sucks, etc...

We're nothing if not consistent.  :D

The Spotted Pig was a place with 1 star aspirations. I think you guys are missing the nuance of the point being made--or maybe not...lol.

The Spotted Pig served a burger you could choke an elephant with, bangers and mash and pea soup when it opened. The kitchen has room for April and two midgets on leave from the circus. It offered sides ala carte and bar snacks. The place is loud as shit and was meant to serve a niche in that neighborhood.  It was never meant to be a 2 star restaurant.

We could go to every star listing in the system and find plenty of restaurants that have thrived. The more relevant exercise is to look at restaurants that had a certain pre-opening star expectation, fell short of it, and see where they are after the fact if they weren't given the luxury of a re-review.

I love the ability to opine and diss and proffer without specific knowledge or experience.

It's a very Post-Modernist take on food criticism.

:) :)

Refreshing, isn't it. The whole real knowledge or experience thing is so overrated.

The only think I wanna know is if it is Northern or Southern Italian?
