Dee and I attended a dinner in Harding Twp which presented Blue Point Brewing's offerings to NJ. Peter Cotter, the brewmaster, discussed his various products for about 40 people. Pierre's Bistro in Harding was the host for the dinner.
Cotter was very engaging aboout his passion for beer, and mentioned they've been aggressively trying to keep the beer as fresh as possible, since most of their beer is sold from kegs in bars. . About 15% is sold via growlers (64 oz glass bottles) and six packs. The firm recently added territory in NJ, and is beginning deliveries here.
reception
hors d’oeuvres (hot smoked bacon with sugar and pepper, crab dip, foie gras spread, home made chips)
Blue Point Brewing Company Golden Ale
menu
steamed clams with chorizo sausages (the broth was composed of ale, cilantro, carrot and onion flecks)
Blue Point Brewing Company Pale Ale
wild mushroom tart with poppy seed crust (this was wonderful. four kinds of mushrooms and a reduction of mushrooms and onions with the Octoberfest beer)
Blue Point Brewing Company Octoberfest
american kobe beef brisket (I liked this, but Dee wasn't impressed. It was a pot-roast like presentation)
roasted root vegetables
Blue Point Brewing Company Toasted Lager (this was a great brew)
organic baby greens
rogue smoky blue, chimay biere,
australian cloth-matured cheddar
Blue Point Brewing Company Hoptical Illusion (I thought the Hoptical Illusion was interesting, and extremely hoppy. Very strong hop nose)
chocolate raspberry millefeuilles
Blue Point Brewing Company Russian Imperial Stout (this was a surprise, as I expected it to be sweet, and it was anything but)

"Peter Kiewit looked for three things in hiring people. He looked for integrity, intelligence and energy. And he said if a person didn’t have the first…that the latter two would kill him. Because if they don’t have integrity, you want ‘em dumb and lazy. You don’t want ‘em smart and energetic.”
