They've got a pretty active metric for soliciting people to suggest members, and they will "suggest" friends of your friends for you to befriend.

i am friend to no one

“One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. 'Oh, no!', I said, 'Disneyland burned down.' He cried and cried, but I think that deep down he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.”

My high school philosophy teacher is still alive. His current students post about him on facebook. Apparently, he hasn't changed one bit. Still smokes pot before he plays basketball with the seniors.

I don't know what's weirder: that he did it or that the minister abetted him in this nonsense.

Facebook has updated their privacy policy to make it less private.

QUOTE
Certain categories of information such as your name, profile photo, list of friends and pages you are a fan of, gender, geographic region, and networks you belong to are considered publicly available to everyone, including Facebook-enhanced applications, and therefore do not have privacy settings. You can, however, limit the ability of others to find this information through search using your search privacy settings.

That's because of this email I received the other day - see below. A mere slap on the wrist, as far as I'm concerned, to a company that mined the private internet activity of their members (when they were on other sites) and then broadast them to the world.

QUOTE
Facebook is sending you this notice of a proposed class action settlement that may affect your legal rights as a Facebook member who may have used the Beacon program. This summary notice is being sent to you by Court Order so that you may understand your rights and remedies before the Court considers final approval of the proposed settlement on February 26, 2010.

This is not an advertisement or attorney solicitation.

This is not a settlement in which class members file claims to receive compensation. Under the proposed settlement, Facebook will terminate the Beacon program. In addition, Facebook will provide $9.5 million to establish an independent non-profit foundation that will identify and fund projects and initiatives that promote the cause of online privacy, safety, and security.

For full details on the settlement and further instructions on what to do to opt out of, object to, or otherwise comment upon the proposed settlement, please go to http://www.BeaconClassSettlement.com.

Please do not reply to this email.

Okay, I have a stupid Facebook question: How come, when I go to my "Home" page, the updates from my friends are something like 12+ hours old. It used to be there were updates from friends that were Seconds or Minutes old, but when I look now, most of them are from yesterday...

The new setup is stupid, I know. But you can click on "View Live Feed" to see updates arranged chronologically.

Okay, I've clicked around Settings (and had no idea how much it had changed and how much more crap there is to deal with...) -- WHERE is "View Live Feed?"
