I've gotten Siri to refer to me as "Your Highness." Otherwise, Siri is fairly worthless.

I told Siri she was 'totally f(*#&^g useless' after an exasperating back and forth for a simple address request. She told me I was entitled to my opinion :P .

Tethering? Does anyone use the iPhone to tether 3G into a laptop or iPad? Any info on whether/how well this works?

we did it one weekend in the hamptons when the house's wireless was down. ran two ipads and a laptop tethered to one iphone. worked surprisingly well. the hard part was finding a place in the house to get 3g reception

'Oh, no!', I said, 'Disneyland burned down.' He cried and cried, but I think that deep down he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.”

it's a data charge.

if you're a techy, this is the definitive iphone 5 review http://www.anandtech...iphone-5-review
(anandtech is about as hardcore technical as it gets).

I've had an iphone 5 for a couple weeks now (early preorder) as my 4 was getting long in the tooth. to me the biggest difference (other than the big step-up in processing power (in terms of CPU and GPU the 5 is the most powerful smartphone on the market (close to the latest ipad actually) and will be until early 2013 when the first ones powered by ARM 15 chips come out)) is how well Siri works now. there's so much more I can do safely while driving (it integrates well with my car's bluetooth setup) and it makes texting and emails much faster...finally perhaps the real answer to RIM's physical keyboard...and Apple seems to recognize this, thus the use of beamforming and noise cancelling to ensure that you can use Siri in almost any environment.

oh (recognizing that the iphone is late to the party on this, but look at the battery life on LTE a year ago) and once you've gone LTE you never go back.

I think the iOS6 made my 4S much worse -- a ploy by Apple to get people to upgrade.

in what way? (other than the maps...which work better if you use Siri btw)....I'm finding a lot of extra functionality hidden away in ios6 (so far I've been having to show a lot of it to friends on their iphones so it appears Apple could have done a better job of showing people the differences)

eta: for example, contacts and reminders and passbook are vastly improved. the facebook integration is actually really cool.

The passbook appeared on my home screen, but I don't know what it does.
If you find a way to make the contacts better please tell me. Some of my contacts have about 15 entries. I keep deleting them, they keep showing up and multiplying. Why can't they put the search box on the top of every contact screen? Oh well, maybe one day they'll ask for my advice.
I rarely think of using Siri, when I do, she can't understand my thick Xhosa accent. I think the clicks throw her off. Maybe I'll try again.

I find that the Internet is much slower and loses the signal more frequently. For example, I was on the UES this morning, and couldn't connect to the MTA site using Verizon (apparently, all the downtown Lex trains were out), but my girlfriend had no problem using her iPhone 5 (ATT). About six months ago, I stopped getting service at my place upstate, even though it says I have bars. I've had no problem with service there for the past 8 years.

It's all a conspiracy.

I just got an iPhone. I'm still at the stage where I'm pissed off at it for being too complicated. I'm sure I'll love it once I get used to it.

(I'm very proud that I figured out how to push my email account to it.)

I have the cleaning lady under "Una, Cleaning Lady" over 30 times by now, and she's not even my cleaning lady anymore.

I can't get an iPhone 5 because it works either in the US (Verizon) and Japan. In the US & Canada, or in the US & Europe. (yes, there are three models identical in every detail except they've saved some space on a chip that works globally)
I never said that

Still a fan of the Blackberry...unapologetically...with the keyboard, of course!

Can't wait for the Blackberry N Series due out soon!

If you ever get an iPhone, you're really going to see how much you appreciate that keyboard.

right now passbook allows you to pay for Target, Starbucks and show boarding passes with one swipe....a lot more companies will likely support it though in the coming months/years.
multiplying contacts: that means you're syncing from multiple address books and/or groups. you really should be syncing contacts from only one location. without looking specifically at what you're doing I can't tell you how to fix it but that's what you're doing. if you've synced your facebook with iOS6 (which you should) you've seen that a bunch of your contacts now have emails, birthdays, websites etc. synced. but in some cases you have a facebook contact and a regular contact for the same person. that means they didn't have their number (or the email address in your icloud contact) on their facebook profile. click edit for their contact, scroll down, you will see "link contact", touch that, then touch the second contact for the person. now they're linked. you've probably also seen 500 facebook contacts show up in your contacts that you don't necessarily want to see...go to contacts, scroll to the top, touch groups, uncheck facebook contacts and they'll no longer show up in your regular contacts list (check it again to show them...or just search for the person). also go through your groups, when I see someone with 15 contacts for the same person they almost always have a long list of groups. get rid of a bunch of them.

if you're getting bars with no service it sounds like a handshake issue...usually a problem with the network though I guess it could be your handset.
