from today's NYTimes:
"'Mad Men' beguiles like a Christmas catalog of all the forbidden vices, especially smoking, drinking and social inequity. Yet the series is more than a period piece. It's a sleek, hard-boiled drama with a soft, satirical core."

"Sometimes they kind of bug me because they're messy," says the show's set decorator, Amy Wells. "We have these long discussions about how many cigarettes they would really allow to be left, and they go, 'Well, if you're smoking so many packs a day, and if you have this many people smoking...' and I go, 'Yeah, but they would clean out the ashtray!'"
yeah, and it would be the secretary's job to clean out the ashtrays. I would imagine a good secretary wouldn't let them lie full for very long, either.
So! Betty Draper is taking riding lessons
I'm still waiting for a "real" conversation between Betty and Don. I think they are over-doing the plasticity of their relationship. I guess I'm expecting a huge breakthrough with this part of the storyline.
And didn't they sorta gloss over the Peggy thing? will we get more details on this later? 2 months away from Sterling-Cooper? (did I hear that right?) Since when can a secretary (oh wait~ junior copy-writer!) take 2 months of leave from a job and still have that job when she came back? And survive in NYC with no pay? Hence the speculation among the men that Don got her pregnant and sent her away, I guess...
ok, I'll stop whining now.
I'm looking forward to regretting this.

I'm surprised we haven't heard from Joel yet on this topic.

Betty was modelling fur coats and Don was writing copy for the account. They met at a photo shoot of hers.

Hm, Don is having problems "closing the deal" in bed? Phenobarbital probably won't help that any. I want to know if they dropped the issue of Betty's hand numbness. It was chalked up to anxiety and nerves, for which she had to see a shrink, but I was sure it would end up being something serious.

I find her very unsettling.
Was Don mailing the book of poetry to Helen?

That was my original thought. But 14 months has passed so who knows? Don is a mysterious man so maybe it could be anyone really.
