I know that the price of a 5# bag in my local market has gone for $2.99 to $4.99 in recent months. I don't bake bread as much during the summer, so I've been working off frozen flour purchased last winter. Didn't see any need to buy new flour at that price.

Any word if it will lower catalog and on-line prices?

Well, this week they did, with a cut to $3.99 for all the KA products. KA goes on special next week for $3.49 for a five pound bag. Gold Medal Better for Bread has already come down to $2.49, and I've been using that in lieu of the KA. ConAgra's Hecker's has been $1.89 on special recently.
KA is good flour, but it's not worth a $2.50 premium over other good products

“One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. 'Oh, no!', I said, 'Disneyland burned down.' He cried and cried, but I think that deep down he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.”

The drought in the midwest seems to be bumping some flour prices higher. The Gold Medal "Better for Bread" flours went to $4.49 (from $3.49) at Corrado's market. The GM regular AP remains at $1.99 for now.
Hodgson Mill has held its prices at $3.49 for rye flour, 50/50, and bread flour. I may grab some of that before the price rises. Toss it in the freezer and be done with it.
