the BruniBlog notes that King Arthur Flour has announced a price decrease as of August 1. The firm hopes that retailers will pass on the savings to their customers.

I know that the price of a 5# bag in my local market has gone for $2.99 to $4.99 in recent months. I don't bake bread as much during the summer, so I've been working off frozen flour purchased last winter. Didn't see any need to buy new flour at that price.

I looked around on their site but I didn't see any mention of the magazine, if they are still publishing or not. Anyone with info.?

Shop-Rite declined to lower its price for the KA baking flour from $4.99 after the wholesale price cut. I asked about it, and they said they were no current plans to pass on the saving.

Well, this week they did, with a cut to $3.99 for all the KA products. KA goes on special next week for $3.49 for a five pound bag. Gold Medal Better for Bread has already come down to $2.49, and I've been using that in lieu of the KA. ConAgra's Hecker's has been $1.89 on special recently.

KA is good flour, but it's not worth a $2.50 premium over other good products

'Oh, no!', I said, 'Disneyland burned down.' He cried and cried, but I think that deep down he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.”

The price of a 5 pound bag of KA all purpose at Gourmet Garage is $8. I know because last week I finished a batch and when I discovered bugs crawling around in my back-up bag we had to run out and buy some more. It's pretty scandalous.

it's usually 2.99 or 3.49 by me. for a long time before it was widely available in nyc i used to bring back the big plastic buckets of flour whenever i went up to visit my college.

King Arthur Bread, Whole Wheat, etc $4.99 for a 5# bag at NJ ShopRite stores this week. The grocery guy said the KA was expected to go to $5.49 "soon".

The drought in the midwest seems to be bumping some flour prices higher. The Gold Medal "Better for Bread" flours went to $4.49 (from $3.49) at Corrado's market. The GM regular AP remains at $1.99 for now.

Hodgson Mill has held its prices at $3.49 for rye flour, 50/50, and bread flour. I may grab some of that before the price rises. Toss it in the freezer and be done with it.
