If the author could go around the place hitting random readers with a rubber hammer, the Pink Pig would still be worth a visit.

I called. They carry Samuel Smith Organic Lager but not "pure brewed." Thanks.

I used to drink Sam's beers a lot as a youth in Yorkshire.

I will. Thanks. I did find a website that will ship the product to me. Sales tax proibably equals shipping and carfare. I'll see.

It is notorious for travelling badly from Tadcaster, anywhere South of Sheffield and it is almost guaranteed to be disgusting.
Can't speak for the bottles though.

The draught (tap) beers, yes - I agree. Some nights in Fitzrovia and around Portland Place, I seem to recall it was very hard to find an alternative.
The missing bit of background detail is that Sam Smith pubs served only Sam Smith beers: that's not usually the case with British pubs. (I have a vague idea that they might not be permitted to do that any more.)

I doubt I have had more than a couple of pints of OBB in the last five years. But I still have a fond memory of the company, because it was a light in a dark beer world for many years.

Perhaps my palate for beer is pretty pedestrian, but the bottle I drank was delicious. Hoppy without bitterness, full tasting, with a clean mouth feel and no sour aftertaste.

I suspect the bottles travel a lot better than their draft and I have never tried the lager. I will have to give it a try this weekend and report back.
