I'm thinking we'll be more towards Georgetown than Capitol Hill on a Saturday, which makes the Tackle Box a more feasible lunch option than Johnny's Half Shell or Hank's Oyster Bar.

But I'm not moored to the pier. Are they any other good (Saturday) lunch spots in the general vicinity worth checking out? I haven't been back to D.C. since I moved away in - gosh, has it been that long? - 2003.

Additionally, s one location preferable to the other?

Hank's in Alexandria or D.C.?

Johnny's Half Shell Capitol Hill or Dupont Circle?

Also, any place out there worth catching a pre-meal drink at? Lounge? Bar? Somewhere nice.

I pretty much enjoyed my cocktail at Firefly a few months ago -- although it was a bit sweeter than expected (I'd asked and ordered it because it was supposed to NOT be sweet), they were nice about fixing it to my taste. And I liked the nibbles, too. A version of the cocktail/beer/wine list here.

I've searched high and low, Carolyn - on this board and others - I don't see your photos anywhere... *hint* *hint*

I found them last night -- they were never posted because they were out of focus. I'll send 'em to you though; I had a lovely maize salad, a pumpkin soup, and the pulled bison. Of all, I should have just stayed with a variety of vegetable dishes which were excellent.

It moved from Dupont Circle to Capitol Hill.

The Passenger. (Convention Center) Head barman/owner Derek Brown has recently served cocktails at the White House and is a Beard semi-finalist. His brother Tom is no slouch behind the stick either.
ChurchKey. (14th St and N(?)) AMAZING beer list including 5 casks on tap at all times.

"Also, we don't "ban" people in the arbitrary fashion you are describing. It's a meticulous and careful process, which is only used sparingly." -jhlurie (now ex-officio)

Cafe Atlantico

This very much has the feel (and taste) of a restaurant that was once very good, but that no longer gets sufficient attention from the chef/owner and is sinking into genericness. Things all would have been much better if just a bit better prepared.

Ships passing in the night? I was just there.

If you were there Sunday night and I missed you, I'll be REALLY pissed off.

Addendum: They apparently don't at all get bar dining in Washington. It's possible that in New York an appetizer would come to me at the bar before I finished my cocktail -- that DOES happen sometimes -- but (other than at "small plates" places where they don't acknowledge that meals have an order) it would NEVER happen that my main dish would get plopped down when I was halfway through my appetizer. I really DID feel like a redheaded stepchild.

COMP DISCLOSURE: Another cocktail for dessert. (The cocktails there aren't bad.)

I missed you by about five hours. I finished up brunch around 3.20 p.m. High-tailed it to the airport directly.
