The list I found, from 2006 and posted elsewhere, included:
Best:
Citronelle
Il Laboratorio at Galileo if it's open (but not Galileo itself)
Next:
CityZen -- Eric Ziebold ; $45 for three courses at the bar a bargain
Komi -- Johnny Monis; Greek influenced; tasting menu $64
Also:
Corduroy
Notti Bianchi
Restaurant Eve (Old Town Alexandria) -- F+W Best New Chef Cathal Armstrong's Irish-influenced
Maestro (Tyson's Corner) -- The third in DC's trio of best restaurants.
Anything new and not to be missed?

Elissa, Here is a fairly recent thread that might be helpful to you --> DC Restaurants
Central and Cafe Atlantico were definitely merit worthy.

SOAC . . .
. . "for the discreet and refined enjoyment of uncommon wine . .
. . . . and victuals and the companionship accruing thereto" . . . .

Would love to get recommendations for some high-endish beer places, like Brasserie Beck perhaps?
Non-food plane: on our must see list - Georgia O'Keeffe, Lino Tagliapietra... what else not to be missed among current exhibitions?

If you will be here on Thanksgiving itself, check out the T-Day feast at Corduroy.
Unfortunately, I haven't been keeping track of current exhibitions.
"Also, we don't "ban" people in the arbitrary fashion you are describing. It's a meticulous and careful process, which is only used sparingly." -jhlurie (now ex-officio)

The renovation of the building was done to make it look trendy-distressed, but I find it just looks distressed
If you'll have a car, there is also Rustico in Alexandria, Virginia. http://www.rusticorestaurant.com/
(And I love Corduroy. Definitely try to go there for dinner if you're in DC for Thanksgiving.)
