Dive Bar: Turkey's nest
Radegast Hall and Beer Garden - they also have credible food.
Best selection of beer: Spuyten Duyvil, Mugs Ale house (good burgers too).

Shopping mouthfuls
Marlow & Sons has a grocery with among other things, Rancho Gordo beans. A Marlow and Daughters butcher shop will be opening soon.
Best cheese: Bedford Cheese shop (quite expensive, though).

Thirsty:

Bridge Winery, with a very nice selection of NYS wines by the glass, flight and bottle. And small plates to eat with the drinks.


Sit down:

Fiore, from the owner of Bianca (in the Village) who lives upstairs and oversees a place every bit as good as Bianca (which, for me, is a very nice thing). Highly recommended.

Fortunato Brothers Pasticcieria. The pignoli cookies are especially good.

Shopping:

Tedone Latticini, for mozzarella (597 Metropolitan). Handmade by a woman in her 90s and usually sold out by noon.

The Williamsburg branch of d. b. a. is now open, per Mr Cutlets' site

Right now the Brooklyn location only has about 1/3 of the selection it will eventually have, but that’s still pretty impressive. Plus, the bar’s three cask-conditioned ales, 23 different kinds of tequila and bevy of bourbons and whiskeys means you can still get plastered in hundreds of different ways.

we're big fans of the tacos at TacoBite near the williamsburg bridge entrance (310 S. 4 St. Brooklyn NY 11211. PHONE 718.302.1117) but haey aven't eaten anything else there.
if you go be aware that it can take up to 15 min to get your tacos -- they apparently "prepare" them.

Dumont's garden is spectacular in the summertime.. waiting can easily take an hour for a table during prime times, but they have a smallish bar out there as well.. the salads, burger, and some of the main dishes have all been well prepared and enjoyable..

Spuyten Duyvil Grocery inside the Bedford Avenue mini-mall has a good selection of beers and esoteric sodas, though their prices are high. That's where I found the Herefordshire perry.

I love Zenkichi for kaiseki cuisine - also Fornino's pizza, and the tea selection at Roebling Tea Room, and the scones at Cheeks Bakery, and brunch at Oak Wine Bar & Cafe. Sorry if some of this has been posted before.

I don't rightly know about borders. Do you have a place in mind? I think I could guess from an address.

A very good taqueria (inside a tortilla factory) near the Jefferson Street L stop.

Brooklyn Star makes chili with tripe, and it's a very good thing on a cold night.

Best Coffee would be Oslo, though Miss A would argue for Gimme Coffee

I believe you are talking about Tortilleria Mexicana Los Hermanos which, I believe is Bushwick.. I was here a few months back and though love the tortillas, did not enjoy the experience or any of the other food.. But, do be able to purchase a pack of warm tortillas is pretty cool..

Rabbit Hole on Bedford is a cozy little place with a very pretty back garden, delicious scones, and excellent cappucino. A serious coffee drinker tells me the coffee is first rate.

Marlow and Daughters has some of the nicest people in the world working there, the guys manning the butcher counter (and yesterday making sausage) could not be more sweet or helpful. But the prices could not be more insane. Literally took my breath away.
