Best Coffee would be Oslo, though Miss A would argue for Gimme Coffee

Pizza at Fornino is ok. Not great but, ok..

A very good taqueria (inside a tortilla factory) near the Jefferson Street L stop.

I believe you are talking about Tortilleria Mexicana Los Hermanos which, I believe is Bushwick.. I was here a few months back and though love the tortillas, did not enjoy the experience or any of the other food.. But, do be able to purchase a pack of warm tortillas is pretty cool..

I don't much like the coffee at Oslo, but I seem to be in the minority.
Could be it's too smooth for my taste.

Greenpoint and Bushwick added.

Since individual Williamsburg places get written about so much now, reoriented to a strictly "Best Mouthfuls" non-destination thread, for places that might not deserve threads of their own.

Wouldn't Blanca count as a destination? It seems like Roberta's is too, even for pizza.

Okay, if we could amend the title to include Bushwick, here goes.

Bushwick:

Sitting down mouthfuls

Roberta's is the most popular option for casual pizza or more sophisticated plates from the kitchen. Good salume, a reasonably priced wine-list, but expect long waits for a table at peak dinner times or brunch.

Northeast Kingdom is a neighborhood bistro which promotes local-sourcing, foraging, and gardening. No reservations here also, but easier to get seated than Roberta's.

Tandem is a saloon with a short comfort-food menu (mac n cheese, a burger, sandwiches, kale) served at the bar or tables.

There's a branch of Manna's soul food buffet on Broadway, not quite as good as its Harlem siblings because of slower turnover. Momo Sushi Shack has inexpensive, but not very good, Japanese small plates.

Reservation Restaurants

Blanca, the new project by Roberta's, may be the only restaurant in Bushwick which takes reservations.

Standing up mouthfuls

Burgeritup is an independent burger joint with a few tables and take-out (the Chimi, their version of a Dominican street food burger, is recommended).

Of the many empanada stands along Flushing, and Broadway between Flushing and Myrtle, the one on the corner of Myrtle and Broadway (outside Mr Kiwi's) is probably the best. Cholulita Bella Deli on Broadway for tortas and cemitas or sit-down Mexican plates in the back.

Sweet mouthfuls

Thirsty mouthfuls

The Narrows is really the best option for cocktails (outside of Roberta's). Tandem has cocktails too, and specializes in "local" liquors. King's County is a tiny but pleasant bar with loud music; nearby Pine Box Rock Shop is the same, only bigger, and has bar snacks. Broomie's is a hipster bar with nightly music or games. Cain's and Lone Wolf Bar are okay, but don't have tap beer.

Shopping mouthfuls

Many corner stores and delis, and the big supermarket by the Myrtle/Broadway J,M,Z stop, have deep selections of Mexican foods, including spices, canned foods and breads. Mr Kiwi's and Brooklyn's Natural are the fancy food stores, the latter very expensive.

Anything else?

Roberta's delivers in the neighborhood.

Okay, moved it. Yes, Blanca is a destination - I was really just commenting that reservations are unknown in the neighborhood.

Roberta's is absolutely still a local, drop-in place for casual dining (and as I said, still delivers).

ETA: I'm looking for StephanieL's post where she cites a bakery, and also I think the tortilleria. There are probably some decent Mexican restaurants, but there are so many.

Blame Sneak. I figured Bushwick had more in common with Bed-Sty than Williamsburg but now that I think about it, he's right.

Nathan! There are no sports bars!

(Unless you count the TVs tuned to Yankees games in the back of Latino lunch counters.)

@ChiefHDB joins in via Twitter:

Arepa Guacuco is fine. Athom Cafe. Abidjan. Arancini Bros. (lot's of A's). Verde Coal Oven.

I don't know these.

Okay, I have been to Athom Cafe. Hippie-ish coffee shop, vegan brownies sort of place.

Walked past Guacoco and Abidjan (African cafe and getting towards Bed-Stuy).

Aha, aha: Arancini Brothers is what's currently attached to the Wreck Room. It has been a Thai and an American kitchen. Now rice balls. And why not?

The first time we were in Bushwick, on the way to or from a party, I forget, we were offered free beer as long as we went into one of the bars and stayed for at least one song by band that was playing... I don't think they ever made it to Pitchfork's best new music section, but the beer was cold. I think the vegan place was already around, or maybe it was a different one?

Oh, Party Expo finally got a beer and wine license. I guess you could grab a cold beer there while watching the local talent. I also should have mentioned Goodbye Blue Monday - again no tap beer, but bottles and, well, cakes and things. But what happens on stage can be just horrifyingly bad. Haven't risked it in a long time.

Was that before or after we went to watch Mylan roast the whole pig at the Art Collective?

A few months earlier. Ironically, that pig roast ended up being far more profitable in the long term than the illegal not-fully-licensed parties ever were.
