A few recent experiences merit mention, but not their own threads, so here it goes....

Finally tried Las Sabrositas in Georgetown. I thought it had been mentioned here already, but couldn't find it. Really fresh, tasty food, though maybe not the most interesting menu. I had some great tacos with a mix of sausage and beef and a steak tostada. They offer some good sounding breakfast dishes, including chilaquiles, and a chicharron quesadilla.

Cocina el Sazon (some of their signs say Zason) is newish place in a cursed spot near my house in Boulevard Park. The specialty is Poblano dishes, including a killer mole poblano and the probably the best salsa I've had in Seattle. Get there soon if you're interested in trying it, it always seems empty and I fear for their survival. sad.gif Address is 11850 Des Moines Dr S.

Also recently tried Slim's Last Chance. Wow, great chili verde; one of 5 varieties on offer. Good heat supported by lots of flavor. Pat had the burger and loved it.

Yeah, I enjoyed Las Sabrositas last year and posted about it somewhere that shall not be named. I split my lunch (take out) as it was huge - and very tasty.

You made it to Slim's after all - babysitter or are the kids in preschool now? I really like that chili verde.

Have you tried the place that replaced Kurry King yet? Did you ever go to KK for that matter? It was late in their reign that I found out they made green onion at lunch. Hot and a bit greasy.

I hear Planet Georgetown lost their space - never made it there.

I wouldn't have thought it, but I miss Georgetown over 15th Ave Capitol Hill for lunch options! How crazy is that. Of course, in Georgetown, I drove for the lunch break and on the Hill, you have to walk, otherwise, the Pike/Pine corridor and Broadway would be well within reach.

We went to Slim's for lunch on one of the snow days while the nanny wrangled the kids. We were about the only people there.

Never made it to KK or the new sushi rolls place in that space.

When we moved into our house, by far the biggest downside was the location vis a vis good places to eat. Now, just a few years later, being half way between Georgetown and Burien is a plus as far as I'm concerned.

Tremendously satisfying meal at the Georgetown Via Trib tonight. Something great about having a good caprese in the middle of winter (OH MY GOD, MAYBE THE TOMATOES AND BASIL WEREN'T LOCAL!!!! ohmy.gif) . I'm not sure the pizzas are any better than at the Cap Hill location, but I like this location much better. Much more of the casual Italian pizza joint vibe rather than scene and attitude and the kids are welcomed.

Zippy's is rad. Decently priced, tasty, and hell, they have a burger with Mama Lil's peppers.

Good Stuff. Full Tilt is delicious too.

Had my first Zippy's burger yesterday...very, very tasty. Not a good option for the 'burger as seared steak tartare' set, this is a charred, well-done, juice, messy burger. Good shake and onion rings too.

Hope I did not mislead you - somewhere besides the link provided I wrote "not Quinn's or Palace Kitchen, but in the Dick's, Kidd Valley, Redmill competition this is the clear winner." Or maybe that was in my imagination?

I like your play on my Full Tilt line though.

Other Whitecenter hits for y'all--I just started working near by, so lunch hunting is my new hobby...

El Paisano Rosticeria--good Mexican food, but AMAZING roast chicken. 1/4 of a chicken with tortillas, salsa and salad for $3
Seattle Roll Bakery--incosistent, but when they're good, they're great. Best bahn mi in town, when they're on, $2

Not at all. In fact I'm ambivalent, at best, about higher end burgers in general. I just wanted to be clear that this was not a place one would go expecting to order a burger medium-rare.

In other news...I saw that Slim's was chose as one of the 10 best chili places in the US by Bon Appetit (or was it Gourmet?). Congrats to them.

Played hooky from work yesterday and ended up trying Hallava Falafel, a falafel truck that parks in front of the Corson Building on weekdays. I've eaten a decent amount of falafel in my time, but this was on a different level. Great messy sandwich that included beet salad, tahini and garlic sauce, tomatoes, lettuce and a pickle. Really delicious. The only bad part was that while I was waiting, I had to watch and smell the shwarma on the vertical spit. I began regretting my choice, but all worked out fine in the end, shwarma next time for sure though.

Matt Dillon and a large crew were working hard on CB garden. It looks like they've dug up just about everything they'd planted last year.

My friend Aksel and I went there a while back. He's Turkish, and LOOOOOVES Falafel, and eats it just about every place he goes. It was the first time I'd ever had Falafel, (just has never been on the radar, I guess,) and I wish I hadn't eaten it there...because I think I'm ruined for it now. It was great, and Aksel thought it was the best Falafel he's ever had in the U.S.

Glad he didn't move to Portland.

The shwarma is very good too.
Georgetown soil + railroad + freeway + airplanes = heavy metal herbs and vegetables. I know soil does a good filtering job, but that's pretty overwhelming. If it ain't one thing, it's another. I like that chefs grow their own stuff when they can.

This was definitely a, "oh, so this is what falafel is supposed to taste like" moment. Good to know that someone who knows what falafel is really supposed to taste like thought this was good stuff. Jason, given my past falafel experiences, you very well may have to go to Israel or Lebanon to find falafel better than Hallava's. Wish I'd tried one of the Jewish falafel places in Paris when I was there to know how this compares.

I think most of their edibles are being grown in the raised beds they built. Assuming they brought in new dirt for those and lined the bottoms, pollution shouldn't be a big issue. I had similar thoughts though when I first started reading about Dillon wanting to grow stuff there.
